In a great example of girl power, two sisters from Hornsby are set for a marathon month of activity to change lives and give children with cerebral palsy reason to smile.

Heidi Pfeiffer and her 16-year-old sister Emily-Kate are taking on the month-long activity challenge STEPtember. They will aim to each do 10,000 steps a day and raise money to help provide therapy and equipment for kids with cerebral palsy.

For Heidi, joining forces with her younger sister to help other children with cerebral palsy is extremely rewarding.

‘We see children in our local neighbourhood with physical disabilities and wanted to do something to help out’, Heidi said. ‘When we heard about STEPtember, we jumped at the chance to have such a motivating cause to inspire us to get active and stay active for an entire month.

‘We’ve signed up with another sibling double act to form a team called ‘Miles for Smiles’, and are looking forward to putting out best feet forward to help give children with cerebral palsy cause to smile.’

STEPtember participants form teams of four and each do 10,000 steps a day from 3-30 September. They wear pedometers and log their daily activity online. More than 40 activities can also be converted into steps including cycling, rowing, surfing and going to the gym.

Participants also raise money to help Cerebral Palsy Alliance provide vital equipment and therapy for kids in need, as well as research into cerebral palsy prevention and cure.

Heidi and Emily-Kate would love the Hornsby community to also step up and register to take part.

‘We have such a wonderful and supportive local community, and it would be great to see everyone rallying to take part in STEPtember’,Heidi  said.

‘The campaign is a chance for us to not only help others in need, but also to get fit and active as we move into Spring.’
