Learn how to make and keep friends, and develop relationships, with PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills).

PEERS is a 15 week evidence based social skills intervention program for young people who have autism and are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends. PEERS was originally developed at the University of California, Los Angeles by Dr Elizabeth Laugeson.

This fun, motivating and engaging program sees participants attend with their parents, who then guide and support their child on the journey to making and keeping friends. Parents are encouraged to provide feedback to their child in the form of coaching during weekly homebased assignments.

The program covers a range of topics, specifically targeting the key social skills and activties that young people often need to develop, these include:

•             How to use appropriate conversational skills

•             How to find common interests by trading information

•             How to appropriately use humor

•             How to enter and exit conversations between peers

•             How to be a good host during get-togethers

•             How to make phone calls to friends

•             How to choose appropriate friends

•             How to be a good sport

•             How to handle arguments and disagreements

•             How to change a bad reputation

•             How to handle rejection, teasing, and bullying
