About Livewire

Livewire is a free and safe online peer support program connecting people affected by a disability, serious illness or chronic health condition. Livewire is run by the Starlight Foundation and endorsed by Cerebral Palsy Alliance for its clients and their families.

Why Livewire?

Living with a disability has a huge impact on all the family - young people, siblings and parents. Livewire provides three separate online communities for these family members - a place where they can connect and share experiences with other people who understand what they are going through.

Livewire helps young people, siblings, carers and parents to:

  • feel less isolated
  • receive more social support
  • be more resilient
  • feel empowered
  • learn to better overcome anxiety and stress
  • experience less bullying and predation
  • are less bored
  • can creatively express themselves
  • feel an increased sense of belonging to the community.

Who is Livewire For?

There are three online communities, available Australia-wide:

  • Livewire Members - for young people, aged over 10 and under 21, living with a disability, serious illness or chronic health condition; a place where they can hang out, make new friends, share experiences, creatively express themselves and know that they are not alone.
  • Livewire Siblings - for young people, aged over 10 and under 21, who have a brother or sister living with a disability, serious illness or chronic health condition; a place where siblings can meet, be supported and share experiences with people who understand what they are going through.
  • Livewire Parents - for parents and carers; a place where parents can connect with others who understand what they are going through in a supportive environment created just for them.

Livewire is supported by major partners including Optus and was established with funding from the Australian government under the Clever Networks Program.
