About Sydney Employment Development Service
Sydney Employment Development Service (SEDS) has two programs:
- Disability Employment Service (Open Employment)
- Transition to Work Program (TTW).
Disability Employment Service
The Disability Employment Service of SEDS helps people with a range of disabilities find employment and educational opportunities.
SEDS assists by:
- identifying career and educational pathways
- setting realistic goals
- providing accredited training and skills development
- preparing a resume
- job search and placement
- providing on-the-job training and ongoing support where appropriate.
SEDS’ successful employment outcomes are the result of its unique ‘Five Point Service Approach’ which offers:
- personalised assessment
- vocational counselling
- specialised training from workplace training consultants
- placement of a qualified employee
- post-placement support.
Who is Eligible?
People with a disability who:
- are 15 years or older
- an eligible school leaver, funded by the state or federal government
- highly motivated and committed to finding work
- require support to find and maintain employment
- able to work in paid employment at least 8 hours per week or wish to undertake approved study to achieve employment.
Employers by:
- offering a free service
- providing qualified candidates for current or potential vacancies
- assisting in the training of new employees
- providing ongoing support to employer and employee
- where appropriate, accessing financial incentives, workplace modifications, and productivity-based wages.
Consultancy:
- workplace access and modifications
- job design
- disability awareness training for employers and staff

Sydney metropolitan area and throughout NSW.
Transition to Work Program (TTW)
SEDS offers an individualised employment preparation program for school leavers utilising state government Transition to Work (TTW) funding.
A range of services are provided, either directly by SEDS or on a brokerage basis:
- Vocational planning and guidance, career planning
- Support with vocational training (university, TAFE, traineeships and apprenticeships)
- Work experience in mainstream employment or a business service
- Assessments – including vocational, occupational therapy, speech and psychometric - to assist with developing access plans and individualised learning and training needs
- Personal development (self awareness, assertiveness and self esteem building)
- Independent living skills such as cooking skills, etc.
- Social skills support and development of recreational networks
- Customised workshops on travel and money skills
- Travel training and support.
Assistance finding employment with:
- Resume writing
- Applications and interviews
- VETAB accredited in-house course (Personal Development for Employment Certificate I in Business)
- Worksite assessments, including access and assistive device needs
- On the job training as required
- Ongoing post placement support as needed.
Who is Eligible?
School leavers with a disability who:
- are 15 years or older
- funded by the state government through Transition to Work or Community Participation funding streams
- require support to transition from the school to work
- able to work in paid employment or wish to undertake approved study to achieve employment.
